So I was leveling on an alt in the Wetlands, when I saw another lowbie accompanied by a lvl 70 Paladin. I noticed he had Blessing of Sanctuary up, so as I usually do when I run into fellow Prot. Paladins, I inspected him, and was greeted with this:
Me: Why on earth don't you have Avenger's Shield or Improved Holy Shield? :|
Him: im poor
Me: That's no excuse... go do some quests in outlands
Him: ill get right on that
Him: doctor wow
Me: As someone who's had a prot pally since before we had a taunt, it upsets me to see someone without those two talents
(This is indeed true. I still have my full Deathbone set in the bank.)
Him: It's just a game, relaxxx
Me: Football is just a game, but if a team were only playing with 7 players...
Him: to deep for me
I stop talking to him at this point. Personally, I think the analogy I was trying to draw there was pretty straightforward.
That last part is beyond the point though, my main question to those of you on the forums is this:
Is the fact that WoW is just a game an excuse for stupidity?
Granted, Avenger's Shield is not always the optimal pulling tool, and often not all the charges on Holy Shield are used up... but certainly anyone could find more use in those two skills than they do from +4% more strength.
At what level do people who say "lol, wow is just a game" shoot themselves in the foot? Attaining level 70 takes a fair amount of time investment.
Not taking the extra 5 minutes to read and understand the functions of your talents seems to be an act of sheer stupidity when getting to level 70 takes several days of time invested.
Often I criticize people's talent specs, sometimes harshly (for example my good friend who was 61 points into Discipline on her priest...) and I sometimes get the "what's the big deal" response... but do people really spend the time leveling to 70 just to be significantly worse at the game than they could otherwise be?
I guess I just enjoy being successful, and perhaps there are some people who can still enjoy the game without being good at it.
Still, the effort required to notice (for example) that the first two points in Holy give you 70% knockback resistance... what some people do just seems foolish to me sometimes.
TLDR version: Is the fact that WoW is a game an excuse to pick horrible specs that are lacking fundamental talents?
Note: didn't post on main as to not upset my priest friend... and I'm specced Ret atm so all you folks would armory me and go "lolret"...
